What does wellness mean to you?
Wellness to me, means being the best version of yourself. Health and wellness mean different things to different people, so I think wellness is just about being that best version of whatever health means to you. For me, it’s about eating the foods that I know make me feel great and doing activities that not only keep active, but also happy and stress free.
What foods make you feel your best?
A balance of mostly everything. Personally, I avoid eating dairy or meat, so focusing on plant based foods and foods with minimal processing is what makes me feel best. Of course with lots of water as well.
One meal you could not go without?
This changes a lot, but at the moment I am loving the veg curry with garlic Naan from Indian Express here at Hahndorf.
Why do you love Birkenstocks and what is your favourite style?
I love Birkenstocks because they are not only fashionable, but they’re super comfortable and supportive! Especially when I’m at work and on my feet for 7 hours a day. I wear my Birkenstocks everywhere but my favourite style is definitely the Mayari in the Mocca colour. I wear mine all the time and love them the most as they go with every outfit, have a supportive anatomically shaped footbed and the cross over straps give ultimate support.
Any tips for someone starting a food blog or cooking e-book?
Stay true to what you love and be authentic! For so long people would make fun of me as I started eating more plant based foods and that is how I promoted myself. Now transitioning from plant based, I also had people making fun of me. You can’t win so just do what makes you happy and eat what makes your tummy happy!
Zero-Waste home tips?
Something I do religiously is now freeze my scraps in a container at home and then at the end of the week, I drop them off to someone who has goats. Even if you don’t own animals who would love scraps, there are so many people out there who would love to take them off your hands. I also buy ingredients from bulk bins in my own glass jars to avoid any packaging.
Why is supporting local important to you?
We all know that it’s best to support local, but I guess for me it’s more beneficial because not only is the profit going to local farmers, but the nutritional quality of the produce is far better. Fruits and veggies can take days, if not weeks to arrive in supermarkets where it may sit for another few days before we buy it. It then stays in fridges for a week or two whereas if I buy local, I know that the produce is fresher, hence the higher nutritional quality.
